Recently, short-form videos are getting much popular. Especially, Tiktok, Reels, and Youtube shorts have been increasing users with their short contents.
However, these things affect us in a negative
way, more than in a positive way. According to scientists, watching short form
videos reduces our attention span. Let's learn about how they distract us.
First of all, short form videos reduce our
ability to endure boredom. They send dopamine to our brains continuously with
colorful and vibrant contents. Therefore, our brains cannot focus on quiet work
like studying and reading.
Furthermore, our brains try to find new clips.
Every time we swipe our screen, new information is given to us no matter if it
is lie. For this reason, we concentrate on finding more exiting contents, so it
is hard to immerse ourselves in long-term homework.
Finally, we get used to the fast rhythm of
short form videos. Short form videos have fast scenes diverting speed, music
tempo, and much more. As a result, our brain adapts to this fast tempo and feels
slow activities like lecture and thinking deeply boring and unnecessary.
Short form videos' popularity and convenience
have been deeply embedded in our lives, but we can't ignore that they've been
disrupting our concentration. Therefore, we need to control our time watching
short form videos to prevent us from distracting.
