There is even a term for this experience. It is called the Mandela effect. It is when a large number of people remember something incorrectly in the same way.

The term was created by an American writer named Fiona Broome. She noticed that many people shared the same memory about Nelson Mandela, a famous South African leader.

They all remembered Mandela dying in prison in the 1980s. They were sure that this was what happened. In reality, Mandela was the South African president throughout the 1990s and lived until 2013.

Indeed, there are various examples of the Mandela effect. For example, many people remember Pikachu having a black tip on his yellow tail. However, the Pokemon character’s tail is solid yellow.

Also, people often misremember movie quotes in the same way. In “Snow White,” people are positive that the Evil Queen says “mirror, mirror on the wall.” The actual line from the original movie is “magic mirror on the wall.”

The Mandela effect shows in an interesting way that our memories are not always perfect. So, even if you’re sure of a fact, you may still want to double-check it.
