  • On the Rheology of Cats

Many of the cat lovers enjoy watching there cat moving flexibly and fitting into small spaces and there is a joke around them that cats are liquid but did you know that there is a scientist who proved that cats are really is liquid?


This dope scientist name is Pardin Marc Antoine from France, Lyon physics lab. He is the person who published the thesis called 'On the Rheology of Cats' before we begin we should know what rheology means. Rheology is a study of movement of a matter and Pardin wanted to find out whether cat is a liquid or not. The answer is it can be. The cat has a elasticity but only for a short time like water which have a round shape when you slow the movment of a falling water but when you leave it for a long time it starts to have a viscosity which proves that cat really is a liquid. So it means that cat can be liquid when you leave it for a long time.


This thesis could be very funny but it got a very big prize called 'Ig Nobel Prize' a pize for interesting thesis like his. He also made a word called 'superfelidaphobic' which is a word formed with super-felis-phobic. It means that things cat doesn't like like water could make the cat form in different angle like what water reacts to oil.


Then why is this interesting creature so flexible? It is because there body had changed from time from the way of hunting. Cats hunt with lowered body. Also they should have an abilities to jump from high places and run very fast. This have actually changed the body of a cat in to having a 52-53 spines (humans only have 32-34), 500 muscle and 230 bones. They also have a shoulder blade made out of muscle and small clavicle. This is why there is a saying that cats have 9 lives.


Like what Pardin said "the cats are liquid is 'solid'" for sure
