What would you do if your house key suddenly disappeared before a birthday party? In the book Nate the Great and the Missing Key, a young detective solves a mysterious case at his friend Annie¡¯s house.
One day, Annie was getting ready for her birthday party at her house. Rosamond arrived first and helped set the table. While she was there, she found a key on the table and placed it on Fang¡¯s shiny silver collar. Then she went home.
Later, Annie noticed that the door was locked and her key was missing. She asked Nate the Great, a famous young detective, to solve the case. Nate quickly began investigating the situation.
At Annie¡¯s house, Nate found a poem that Rosamond had written before she left:
¡°Your key can be found,
at a place that is round,
a place that is safe,
a place that is shiny,
a place that is big.¡±
Nate thought carefully about the clues in the poem. He realized that the description matched something close by. Soon, he confidently said, ¡°I know where the key is.¡±
Annie asked, ¡°Where?¡± Nate pointed to Fang. On Fang¡¯s collar, Annie saw a name tag, a license, a silver dog dish, a silver bone—and her missing key!
In the end, Nate the Great successfully solved the case using careful thinking and clues. This story teaches us that even small details can be important when solving a problem. It also shows that staying calm and thinking step by step can lead to the right answer. Sometimes, the solution is closer than we think—we just need to look carefully.
