Have you ever thought of being killed painfully? It would be sad to die just because you were abandoned? This is the current situation of 34.45 percent of dogs in U.S.A alone that were adopted in 2024. Therefore I think we should not euthanize abandoned animals for three reasons. First, animal euthanization abuses animal rights. Second, the animals have to die painfully. Third, it can be bad for the psychological health of veterinarians.

 

 First, it is an abuse of animal rights. It is in the Animal Protection Act of Korea which was enacted in 1991, and it says that it bans all killing of animals with inhuman methods, and animal euthanizations are often done in cruel methods which gives very painful death to animals. Also, people who do not secure this law can be fined up to 30million Korean won. In addition, apart from the laws, this is a moral problem, and killing a life isn’t normally considered a morally right thing to do if you are not a regular person. On top of it, the post mortem care of animals are often throwing them into a box and trashing it. Therefore, animal euthanization is both legally and morally a problem.

 

 Second, most of animal euthanizations are done with inhumane methods. Most of animal euthanizations happen because animal shelters don’t have enough space to keep the dogs even though many of them are perfectly healthy. In these animal euthanization processes, drugs like Potassium chloride and Magnesium sulfate are used. These methods sound painful when you hear them, and they are actually very painful even compared to living with a painful disease. To explain with details, it causes severe burning and muscle cramping, which give you an intense pain. Like this, animal euthanization gives animals intense pain.

 

 Third, it causes unhealthy effects to veterinarians in psychological ways. According to Seoul news, which is a news company of Korea, 99.6 percent of veterinarians feel psychological pain in the process. One veterinarian replied in a survey that he couldn’t look into the dog’s eyes when they euthanized dogs and eventually quit his job. Like this, they feel intense sense of guilt, and they might suffer various traumas related to killing animals.

 

 To conclude, I strongly disagree with animal euthanization because; First, it violates animal rights. Second, done with inhumane methods. Third, are unhealthy for veterinarians. No animals should be killed without a reason and for humans.
