  • The Death Penalty

Some countries like China and the USA still have the death penalty. Death penalty is the punishment of execution, sentenced to capital crimes. Most criminals who have murdered someone get sentenced to a death penalty. However, there are some people who try to stop the death penalty. I also agree with the idea that the death penalty should be banned. Innocent people might be wrongfully punished, this system violates the human right and it is expensive​.

         First of all, innocent people might be killed. Between 6% to 15.4% of the people who were executed were innocent. This is because of wrong evidence, racial basis, and etc. The racial basis is shown in the central park jogger case, which refers to the brutal assault of a female jogger in Central Park, New York City, in April 1989. In this case, five men were executed just because they weren’t white.

         Second of all, the death penalty is a violation of the human rights. The human right is a right that all of the humans must have. Some rights that everyone has are life, dignity, equality and privacy. Even if the criminal killed a person, it is still not okay to kill the criminal. The death penalty could also mean that some lives aren’t worthwhile.

         Last of all, the death penalty is expensive. Criminals have a right to appeal to the court’s results three times. During this process, if the criminal keeps appealing, the government needs to keep criminals in jails. To do this, they need to have money. Because of the appeals, sometime it can cost from $740,000 to $1.26 million.

         The death penalty might kill innocent people, is a violation to the human rights, and expensive. So, I think that the death penalty should be banned. Even if they did something terrible, they are humans, so they should be respected and forgiven.
