The Reason Why Teenagers These Days Are
Crazy About K-pop
By Lee Kuy-won, Daemyeong Middle School
When I wake up listening to the songs of my
favorite idol, waking up is not a hard job. I set my alarm to my favorite
idol's song. When I finish my school lunch and start to enjoy my free time, I
can hear what makes my free time the most perfect time of my day. They are K-pop
songs. In my school, it let students choose K-pop songs to listen to during
lunch free time. As I hum the lyrics of my favorite part of the song, my
classmates start the conversations about who is the most handsome or pretty
idol or show photo cards of idols that they bought with their precious pocket
money. As I finish my school and go to a math academy, I listen to K-pop songs
while riding a bus. As I go back throughout my day, I noticed that K-pop was
deeply soaked into our daily lives these days, especially during the pandemic
times.
I think the first reason why teenagers
these days are deeply into K-pop is that the songs are usually about love. As I
go through middle school life, I noticed that many students are having
relationships. I have also experienced this relationship. As I go through it, I
started to listen to k pop more! I think it is because I can actually
understand more about the feeling of love and K-pop altogether.
The second reason is that they became good
friends in the pandemic times. Because the pandemic has been going on for a
long time, students are having problems making friends even though covid is
getting weaker and weaker. This aftereffect of covid is making a vicious circle
of loneliness. When I was having problems with my relationships, I got a lot of
help from K-pop. It gave me a hopeful message that everything would be okay
soon and there is nothing to worry about. Because K-pop is sensitive to trends
of the times, it gives a caring message that we were just looking for.
The third reason is that they are catchy because
K-pop usually pinpoints the trend. K-pop singers make the songs as catchy as
possible to last longer in this fast-changing world. As my friend and I sing
the same catchy rhythm together, our bond gets stronger because we are into the
same interests and can talk about it a lot. I have a friend who likes the same
boy band as me. And that gives a pretty big impact on becoming best friends
with her because we got closer by talking about the boy band and what they wear
and their new songs.
I think teenagers are very interested in K-pop
today because they give a strong connection to the lives we are living right
now. How about listening to K-pop music when you need some words of
encouragement?
