Most people think that a strawberry is a berry and that the small yellow parts are seeds. But did you know that the small yellow parts on a strawberry are actually a fruit? Botanically speaking, the red, fleshy part of a strawberry is not a true berry. It is an enlarged receptacle. The small yellow parts are called achenes, and each achene contains a seed. So where are the seeds? They are inside the achenes. You can see the seeds if you open an achene. Because of this, a strawberry is not a true berry. In botanical terms, it is called a "false fruit." Now you know the secret of the strawberry!
