The project, called “Friends of Four Paws,” started in 2013. After rescuing a sick dog, students and faculty at the school were inspired to help more animals. Over time, a specialized classroom was created, and over 500 cats and dogs have been cared for.

At the school’s shelter, students feed the animals, give them baths, clean their kennels, and provide training. Completing these tasks helps students learn about responsibility and empathy. It also promotes the emotional well-being of the students and the pets.

Interacting with the animals has improved the mental health of the students. Teenagers with self-esteem issues and personal conflicts bond with the animals and build stronger connections. This helps them feel more supported and motivated.

Additionally, the animals rescued by the school are later adopted by loving homes. So, the program is a success for both the animals and the students.
