In early May, the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards* released a report. It was about the average height and weight of students in Korea.
According to the report, students of all ages have grown taller compared to 10 years ago. For example, boys in elementary school are, on average, 4.3 centimeters taller, while girls are 2.8 centimeters taller.
Additionally, the peak period for growth is beginning about two years earlier. In 2013, boys grew the most between the ages of 16 and 17, while girls did so between 15 and 16. Now, the peak period happens between 14 and 15 for boys and between 13 and 14 for girls.
Along with their height, the average weight of students has increased, as well. For example, male high schoolers are now 4.4 kilograms heavier, while the average weight for high school girls has increased by 2.8 kilograms.
