Koreans not only love to cook and eat food, but they also enjoy watching television shows about it. Recently, a pair of local television programs with food-related themes have received high viewership.
Although their formats are very different from each other, the two TV shows have one thing in common. They both get the viewers¡¯ mouths watering.
¡®Culinary Class Wars¡¯
¡°Culinary Class Wars¡± made its debut on Netflix in early September. Featuring 100 contestants, it was touted as the biggest cooking survival show to be made in Korea.
The contestants were split into two teams. The ¡°white spoon¡± team was made up of Korea¡¯s top chefs, while the ¡°black spoon¡± team was composed of lesser-known chefs and cooks from local restaurants.
The format proved to be immensely popular, and viewers were mesmerized by the entertaining cooking battles and creative recipes.
On top of that, many of the participating chefs have become celebrities of their own, and people have been lining up at their restaurants to try the dishes for themselves.
¡®Three Meals a Day¡¯
¡°Three Meals a Day¡± is a reality show that debuted on tvN in 2014. In the show, a cast of celebrities live in a small rural or fishing village for three days a week.
There, they experience rural life and cook delicious meals with whatever ingredients they can find. They also invite celebrity friends to eat the meals, as well as share in the chores.
This year was the 10th anniversary of the popular cooking reality show, and in September, it saw the return of actors Cha Seung-won and Yoo Hae-jin as the main stars. Viewers enjoyed watching Cha whip up appetizing meals, while Yoo used his handyman skills to build what they needed.
