Children’s Day was created by Bang Jeong-hwan. He was a child rights activist and author.

Bang believed that children should be loved and respected. So, in the 1920s, he worked hard to raise awareness of children’s rights.

He also published books and magazines for children. He used the word “eorini,” which means “child,” to show respect for young people.

Because of his efforts, Children’s Day is now an official holiday in Korea. Many people still thank him for creating a day just for children.

Bang’s Magazine

In 1923, Bang published a magazine titled “Eorini.” It was Korea’s first magazine for children. It included stories, pictures, and poems.

Bang as Translator

For his magazine, Bang translated stories from other countries into Korean. This way, Korean children could develop their imagination. One of the translated stories was “The Happy Prince” by Oscar Wilde.
