https://upfile.neungyule.com/upload_admin/2025/03/736_p10.jpgThese days, there are various kinds of satellites orbiting Earth. They are made with interesting materials and sometimes use new types of energy.

Let¡¯s read about three different kinds of satellites.

Solar-powered Satellite

In 2024, NASA* tested out a new solar-powered satellite. It has big sails that can absorb solar energy.

Because of its sails, the satellite looks like a boat in outer space. Someday, the spacecraft may use solar energy to travel deeper into space.

Wooden Satellite

Also in 2024, a team of Japanese* scientists launched a special satellite. The small satellite was made mostly out of wood.

When the satellite falls back to Earth, it will burn up in the atmosphere. This will reduce the amount of space junk.

Tiny Satellite

Not all satellites are big and heavy. In fact, scientists often send up tiny satellites called CubeSats.

CubeSats typically measure 10 centimeters on each side. The light spacecraft are easy to build and are used for short scientific studies.

Discussion Questions
Q1: How does the solar-powered satellite look? How does it work?

Q2: What will happen to the wooden satellite? What will be good about it?

Q3: What kind of satellite do you want to use? What will you do with it?
