  • Sesame leaf argument
Thesedays, there is a overheated debate in Korea, called “Ggaet Nip Non Jaeng(Sesame leaf argument).” This debate is about the discomfort people feel when they see their girlfriends or boyfriends help other people peel off pickled sesame leaves which often stick together, and are hard to peel one by one. The main issue here is whether a person think it is okay or feel jealousy when they see their boyfriend or girlfriend help another person to separate the pickled sesame leaves.

 

pros

People who don't care too much about this issue say that it is just basic manner for a person to help others in need. Social manner is important quality to live in a community, so people feeling strong jealousy or anger could be overreaction.

 


Also, pickled sesame leaves are limited source of food that we have to share with other people. When someone has two leaves at a time, there is a slight possibility of someone not being able to eat one, which could upset them.

 

cons

Helping others to peel off pickled sesame leaves with already once used chopsticks could be nad for hygiene. We are living in Corona virus pandemic, we should always be careful with sanitary.

 

Anything that can cause one’s partner to misunderstand and to be worried is something people should at least be careful. Lovers should care each other more than the third party and try to protect each other’s feelings, so if peeling off someone else’s sesame leaves could hurt one’s partner’s feelings, one should be careful about it.
