Where can you see a scarecrow? Maybe you can spot them on the farms usually. But do you know why the scarecrows are needed? Of course, we do know that scarecrows are there to scare away the crows or the other birds that like to eat the grains that are on the farm. That is the main reason why it is called a scare-crow.  Scare-crow you get it?

You may think that the birds are afraid of the scarecrow because of its look, and its human clothes. But that is not true! The real reason why the birds are afraid is of the smell. The smell that comes from the old clothes and maybe hats. The human scent makes the birds frightened. Plus, these scent doesn't last long forever. These smells go away when there is a hard blowing wind or when the rain comes this scent goes away. Then the crows won't be afraid of them anymore. So, we should probably change clothes every time when the scent wears off.

In truth, when I searched about the reason why the birds are afraid of the scarecrow I really thought it was because of the model that was similar to the human body. But I was wrong, until now.

So in conclusion, next time when you spot a scarecrow, don't just think of it as a simple ornament that stands in the fields doing nothing. You should think of it as a guard that keeps the crows away from the field.​
